This family hike is located in one of the most spectacular and famous valleys of Trentino: Val di Fiemme. With so many hiking options, it’s no wonder this valley is a beloved tourist destination! And if you are wondering if there are trails suitable also to carry your baby with you, the answer is absolutely yes!
While not suitable for strollers (you can find stroller-friendly hikes in Val di Fiemme here), this trail is absolutely manageable with a backpack or baby carrier. It’s a short, non-technical hike with complete shade, making it ideal for a Val di Fiemme hiking with babies experience.
Parking and the Climb
Parking is available in a few spots right at the beginning of the trail in Ziano di Fiemme. You’ll find the trailhead on the left side of the main road, marked as “strada vecia di Sadole.” The moderate climb takes about 45 minutes and gains roughly 600 meters in elevation. The climb is moderately steep and completely shaded, making it enjoyable even on warmer days. Our family, including Edo in the backpack, has hiked this trail twice and loved it each time.
The trail winds through a cool forest, with a refreshing creek babbling alongside you in some sections. It’s a short hike that rewards you with a beautiful destination: Rifugio Cauriol, a charming mountain hut nestled in a lush green meadow.
Rifugio Cauriol and the Playground
Rifugio Cauriol is a family haven. Beyond the delicious food, a dream playground awaits! Swings, a play tent, various wooden structures, and a small stream for water play are all nestled in a large, green field, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery.
This idyllic spot is also a stop on the famous Translagorai, a multi-day trek through the Lagorai mountain chain. We actually conquered the Translagorai a few years ago, and now we can’t wait to experience it again with our little one by our side!
More Fun for babies at the End of the Hike
Is your baby still feeling restless after the hike? The Romanello Playground in Predazzo, just a 7-minute drive from Ziano di Fiemme, is a perfect next stop! We discovered this favorite spot on one of our mountain bike tours. It boasts a variety of equipment to keep little ones entertained, from swings and slides to climbing structures.
Plus, for hungry adventurers, there’s a convenient local restaurant right by the entrance (Ristorante Bar Loze) , offering delicious local food and friendly service.
