A Family MTB Journey Through Time on the Zugna Family MTB Route

Our Zugna Family MTB adventure began in Rovereto, where we parked our car at the Stadio della Quercia. We hopped on our bikes and cruised along a scenic bicycle path that hugged the banks of the Adige River, offering stunning panoramic views. With the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces, we were already feeling adventurous.

The climb up Mount Zugna started soon after a quick breakfast at a bike stop in Rovereto. The climb started out a bit steep and rocky, which might be tricky with a bigger trailer (not the single-wheeled kind like ours).  But don’t worry, it gets easier. Remember, the best places are often the ones you have to work hard to reach (Rifugio San Pietro MTB Ride teaches that)!

As we ascended, the landscape unfolded beneath us, revealing breathtaking views.

Then, something incredible came into sight: dinosaur footprints!

We stopped at an archeological site (Orme dei dinosauri)  where massive rocks displayed the imprinted steps of these giants from the Jurassic Era, over 200 million years ago. It was a humbling experience to imagine these creatures roaming this very spot so long ago.

MTB enthusiasts will be stoked by this video that showcases a rider shredding the site’s steep sections. It captures the otherworldly, lunar landscape you’ll find here and the rider’s impressive skills!

History Whispers in the Breeze

Continuing our climb on the Zugna Family MTB Route, we came across reminders of the soldiers who fought on Mount Zugna during World War I. It was a poignant moment to reflect on the history embedded in these mountains.

A Refreshing Break at Sorgente Pra

After conquering the climb on the Zugna Family MTB excursion, we were ready for a well-deserved break. Luckily, we reached a beautiful spot called Sorgente Pra.

A vast green field stretched before us, and a refreshing water source (Sorgente Pra) bubbled nearby. As every parent knows, water is an irresistible playground for little ones! So we happily splashed around and enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch in this idyllic setting.

The Majestic Albaredo Rock Mushroom: A Highlight of the Zugna Family MTB Ride

Fueled by our refreshing break, we continued our adventure. Our next stop? The awe-inspiring Albaredo Rock Mushroom! This natural wonder, sculpted by years of water erosion, resembled a giant mushroom perfectly.

We marveled at the power of nature on display, not just in the mushroom itself, but in the vast landscape that unfolded before us.

Cruising Back Down

Since we were riding with our trailer, we opted for the easier paved route on the way back down. The ride down was a breeze, filled with laughter and happy chatter. The climb may have taken longer with all the amazing stops, but the descent was quick and enjoyable.

A Perfect Family Outing: The Zugna Family MTB Route

This Zugna family MTB adventure was a fantastic way to spend a day together. It combined the thrill of mountain biking with the wonder of history and nature.

Just remember to avoid very hot days, especially when visiting the dinosaur footprints where there’s not much shade.

So, pack your bikes, pack a picnic, and get ready for an unforgettable family adventure on Mount Zugna!
