FAMILY WING FOILING HOLIDAYS

Dreaming of an active family holiday where you can explore the wind and create memorable adventures? Then continue reading about our personal journey, our favorite destinations, and our tips and tricks for a memorable family wing foiling holiday.

How it started: our First Windsurfing Holiday

Our first windsurfing holiday began as a couple with very little experience, using my father’s old equipment. We went to Corsica. While Dami learned how to waterstart, I struggled with the heavy equipment and the unfamiliar waves and vastness of the sea compared to lakes.

Nevertheless, that holiday allowed us to explore beautiful beaches and experience a sense of belonging and adventure. Despite our outdated gear, we felt a friendly connection with others and even appreciation.

The Challenge of Finding Wind

After that initial trip, we were determined to embark on more windsurfing holidays and upgraded our equipment as we gained experience. We knew the Canary Islands were famous for their wind and booked the cheapest flight to Lanzarote. The first day, when we went to rent equipment, the response “esta semana no hay viento” (there is no wind this week) became a recurring theme for our future windsurfing holidays. Yes, the most significant challenge of a windsurfing/wingfoiling holiday is finding wind!

Since wind forecasts are unreliable more than three days in advance, unless you’re planning a short trip, you must book your holiday based on wind trends, which can often be inaccurate, as we’ve learned. The solution? Perhaps a wind dance

Why we Love Family Wing Foiling Holiday

Living in the mountains, we crave the sea during our holidays. Since we’re not fans of lounging under umbrellas, windsurfing destinations are our top choice! Fun, exploration, and a sense of wilderness make these holidays incredibly enjoyable.

Is this possible with kids? Absolutely! With the right equipment and by choosing suitable destinations. Some might think kids dislike wind, but it depends on how you introduce them to it. You can foster a love for wind through activities like kite flying and, when conditions are too strong, by finding sheltered beaches to play on.

Sometimes, we feel guilty for not choosing crowded beaches, but the truth is, we, as parents, don’t enjoy those environments. We’ve discovered that our son, surprisingly (or perhaps not, given his genetics), also loves wilderness. A few days at those crowded places are fine, but not an entire holiday. We’ve explored beautiful beaches where one parent can enjoy wingfoiling while the other plays with the kids on the beach and in the water. Now, our son is eager to have his own wing, demonstrating the powerful effect of imitation!
