Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Flag Beach, Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura tops our list! It’s our favorite among the European wing foil destinations so far, offering a well-organized yet relaxed vibe. Beyond wingfoiling, the island boasts numerous natural wonders to explore with your family, and the beaches are simply marvelous. Affordable flights from most European locations make wingfoiling breaks accessible, and accommodation and living costs are particularly reasonable in the North-Corralejo (our recommended area).

Puerto Lajas; wingfoil spot Fuerteventura
Puerto Lajas, Fuerteventura

For wingfoilers, the wind is consistently good, and while the number of spots is limited, those available are unforgettable. Tribe Daddy still dreams of his wave wingfoiling session at Puerto Lajas! Find more information about spots and family-friendly activities in our dedicated blog post .

Tenerife, Canary Islands

El Médano, Tenerife

Tenerife shares many of Fuerteventura’s advantages but has a more touristy atmosphere. For wingfoiling, especially if you’re not an experienced rider, Tenerife likely offers more spot variety. The iconic wind sports location, El Médano, is the place to be in Tenerife for a wingfoil holiday. If you’re looking for family attractions like fun parks and tourist destinations, Tenerife has plenty to offer. However, for stunning beaches, Fuerteventura wins in our opinion. Our dedicated post will detail all the spots and tips for your wingfoiling family holiday.

Karpathos, Greece

Wingfoiling in Karpathos, Greece
Gun Bay, Karpathos

Karpathos is home to one of the strongest winds we’ve ever experienced: the Meltemi. Its sound and power are truly memorable. Like other Greek islands, Karpathos offers beautiful beaches with warm water, perfect for family swims.

Wingfoiling is centered around one main spot (Gun Bay and nearby areas). The water is consistently flat, and the wind can be so strong that the beach may even be closed. Despite its reputation for constant wind, we had only two windy days during our visit, one of which was too strong for wingfoiling (even Daddy, after a 30-minute windsurfing session, decided to come in due to the offshore wind!). Furthermore, flights from Europe are affordable, and Karpathos isn’t overrun with tourists like other Greek islands. More informations available on the dedicated post.

Lake Garda, Italy

Wing Foiling in Garda Lake, Italy
Malcesine, Lake Garda

We may be biased, as this is our home, but we believe it deserves a spot on this list. Its consistent wind complements the unique advantage of enjoying watersports on a freshwater lake. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced rider, you’ll find perfect conditions here, from flat water for learning to challenging spots for advanced riders.

Moreover, riding on a lake surrounded by breathtaking mountains is an unparalleled experience. If you’re looking for a multi-sport vacation, this is the ideal location, offering MTB trails, hiking, climbing, and virtually every other outdoor activity imaginable. Sardinia, Italy

Windsurfing and Wingfoiling in Porto Pollo, Sardinia
Porto Pollo, Sardinia

In terms of wind consistency, based on our personal experience (and we often have bad luck with wind), Sardinia is the most unpredictable and least windy on this list. However, with some luck, its spots are absolutely worth visiting. Even without wind, the beautiful beaches and warm water make Sardinia magical.

We visited before we had kids and still as a windsurfers, but many beaches are family-friendly. We highly recommend avoiding the peak summer months. September is the perfect time to explore a wilder Sardinia, and campervan or van travel is our favorite way to experience the island’s nature and save money. Among the spots, Porto Pollo is a top choice (with a separate beach for kiters), offering a well-equipped rental school and excellent conditions.

Mari Ermi Wing Foiling Spot, Sardinia, Italy
Mari Ermi, Sardinia

Mari Ermi, known more for kitesurfing, is also beautiful for windsurfing and wingfoiling, with its colorful “rice” sand. Nearby is Porto Ferro, which rarely offers waves, but it’s close to one of my favorite family beaches in the world: Sa Mesa Longa. These spots are located in a less touristy, wilder part of Sardinia compared to the crowded Porto Cervo and Costa Smeralda, perfect for exploring by campervan, as they all offer van parking directly at the beach. We hope to return soon and explore nearby Corsica, which also has some beautiful wind spots.

We sincerely hope these personal experience tips on these wing foil destinations inspire your next memorable wingfoiling family trip. There’s nothing better than enjoying sports together and actively exploring new places with the whole family!
